About Industry 88

Industry 88 is music culture agency

We started collecting mixtapes and vinyl when we kids, and never stopped. Soon enough one IKEA bookcase was not enough to hold all of our records. Everything was on our radar - disco, hip hop, house, jungle, techno, drum n bass, ambient, speed garage, acid jazz, electronic, punk, rock, electro, and all the sub-genres, hybrids, and mash up’s in between. There were times when the weirder it was the better. When you’re an audiophile, its fun to see just how far you can push people on the dance floor, and challenge your other music geek friends with your musical obscurity.

It was pretty much a contest - Oh yeah? Well have you heard this?

Eventually, we started to make our own music, and started our own record labels. Then the interweb came along, and we found out that people as far as Iceland were buying our records. And they were also making cool music. In fact, there were people all over the world just like us. We all started to connect, exchange ideas, and develop friendships. Before you know it, myspace came along and we could all keep close tabs on each other, and found even more new music. Exciting stuff indeed.

During our audiophile years, we also connected with with other like minded artists across various creative disciplines. We collaborated on installations, visual, graphic, digital,  technology,  and culinary arts project.

So, here were are. We like good music, we like art, and we like the number 88. It means a lot of cool things. There are 88 keys on a piano, Michael J Fox had to drive his Delorean 88 MPH to get Back To The Future. In Chinese, it represents good luck and fortune, in Japanese, a “great many” or “countless possibilities”, in Morse code, “kisses and hugs”.
